Chapter 6 - THE LAST LUXURY DINNER
The financial case expanded.
Forgery.
Fraud.
Misuse of personal information.
Attempted unlawful borrowing against property.
Child neglect.
Evidence fabrication.
The prosecutor separated the matters, but the documents connected them.
Valeria cooperated first.
She had always believed cameras made her powerful.
Then investigators explained that recordings also preserved conspiracy.
She admitted Carmen asked her to film Camila crying.
She admitted Daniel wanted proof that I was “never around.”
She admitted the seafood dinner was a celebration of the conditional loan approval.
She admitted they expected me to pay the restaurant’s second invoice the next morning.
She also admitted something I had not known.
The family planned to move me out.
Not immediately.
After the loan funded.
Daniel would file for divorce and emergency custody.
Carmen would testify that I was unstable.
The false psychologist would submit the evaluation.
Daniel would request temporary occupancy of the apartment so Camila’s routine would not be “disrupted.”
Then the property debt would make selling nearly impossible.
I would be outside.
They would remain inside.
My salary would continue supporting Camila through court-ordered payments.
It was elegant.
Disgusting.
And nearly complete.
The mistake was not that I came home early.
The mistake was believing Camila was too young to tell me the truth.
She remembered everything.
The bread.
The cold chair.
Carmen saying she should cry louder for Valeria’s camera.
Daniel walking past the balcony door.
The seafood smell.
During a child therapy session, Camila drew six adults around a table and one small figure outside a black rectangle.
When the therapist asked who could open the door, Camila drew me holding a key.
I cried in the parking lot after seeing it.
Then I went back inside and held her until she complained I was squeezing too hard.
The court cases took months.
Valeria pleaded guilty to financial participation and evidence fabrication in exchange for cooperation.
Carmen fought longer.
She blamed her generation.
Her culture.
My travel.
Camila’s behavior.
Everyone except herself.
The videos defeated her.
Daniel eventually accepted responsibility for the forged loan documents, financial fraud, and his role in the custody scheme.
His attorney carefully avoided the word conspiracy until the final hearing.
The court did not.
He received a criminal sentence, restitution obligations, and restrictions that ended the professional reputation he had protected more fiercely than his daughter.
Carmen received a shorter sentence involving detention followed by supervised release, financial restitution, and a long-term prohibition on contact with Camila.
Valeria lost her public platform after her own unpublished videos became evidence.
Arturo disappeared before her plea hearing.
Apparently love built on luxury dinners has poor endurance.
Roberto claimed ignorance.
Mateo found his signature on three transfers.
He settled the financial case and sold the Acapulco condominium the family had secretly purchased with money from Costa Dorada Experiences.
