Chapter 26 - THE LAST WHITE BOTTLE

The police evidence unit contacted me after all appeals ended.

The white bottle could be destroyed.

The sealed orange-juice sample had already been disposed of under hazardous-evidence protocols.

The medication schedule remained digitized.

The forged documents remained in archives.

Did I want the bottle returned as a personal exhibit?

“No.”

Sophie received the same question because it was evidence in her assault case.

She laughed when I told her.

“What would I do with it?”

“Exactly.”

We both declined.

The bottle was destroyed through ordinary evidence procedures.

No hammer.

No ceremony.

No museum case.

A small plastic container had already controlled enough imagination.

Bridget’s final appeal reduced one fraud-related restitution calculation but preserved the central convictions.

The court corrected accounting without rewriting history.

She completed supervised release years later and lived quietly.

She never returned to my life.

Charles died after release from an unrelated illness.

Dr. Hale’s case remained in professional training.

Diane retired from nursing with no further discipline.

Sophie became Dr. Sophie Miller, veterinarian.

The first time I saw her name on a clinic door, I cried harder than at my own rehabilitation milestones.

She said:

“Don’t make this about juice.”

“I wasn’t.”

“You were thinking it.”

“Only a little.”

She hugged me.

Then charged me full price when Rebecca’s dog needed dental work.

“Family discount?”

“Conflict of interest.”

Alma would have loved her.

At Sterling Mobility’s final founder-history review, archivists asked whether my personal medical records should be included.

“No.”

“Some are central to the governance case.”

“Include redacted legal findings. My body does not become corporate property because its condition affected voting rights.”

They agreed.

Laura’s warning letter entered the archive with my consent.

Her private grief letters did not.

Privacy and transparency remained different things.

The breakfast-room audio stayed sealed except for the court excerpt.

Sophie’s full forensic interview remained restricted.

History did not require consuming a child.
