Chapter 10 - THE SIGNED RELEASE

The signed release was found on a cloud backup connected to Garden Table’s scanner.

It carried my signature.

The document stated that every trust payment had been authorized and that I transferred future claim authority to Gerald for three additional years.

I had never signed it.

The signature came from a legitimate school form.

Forensic analysis showed the image had been extracted and placed onto the release.

The scan was created three days before the barbecue.

The plan became clearer.

My family intended to confront me with records, pressure me to sign an acknowledgment, and use the prepared version if I refused.

The barbecue guests would provide witnesses that I had been present for a “family settlement.”

The guardianship draft provided leverage if I became angry.

The gray envelope threatened the plan because it warned me directly that the trust was under review.

Lily picked it up before Gerald could hide it.

That did not mean he planned to burn her in advance.

The violence appeared to be his reaction when control failed.

Rebecca’s devices held planning messages.

HELEN: Nathan signs before dessert.

GERALD: Keep Lily with Mason.

REBECCA: If he gets loud, everyone sees.

Gerald replied:

He always chooses anger.

They knew my weakness.

I had spent years responding to humiliation by raising my voice.

At the barbecue, I had almost advanced toward him after the tongs struck Lily.

If I had, the footage might have shown two angry men instead of one adult shielding a child.

That realization did not make Gerald’s act my fault.

It forced me to examine what he expected from me.

The warehouse fire investigation identified Helen’s car through toll and traffic cameras.

A gas-station receipt showed she bought a small fuel can the same evening.

Her attorney said she intended to refill a lawn mower.

The can was found in the warehouse alley carrying her fingerprints.

Helen was arrested on evidence-destruction and obstruction allegations.

She continued denying the trust fraud.

Gerald’s attorney approached prosecutors about a broader plea.

He would admit mishandling funds and reckless injury but not intentional use of Lily as leverage.

The prosecutor refused any factual statement that described the burn as accidental.

Lily’s account, Mason’s statement, medical pattern, and Gerald’s own words contradicted it.

Thomas Keane agreed to cooperate with investigators.

He admitted bypassing bank controls because Gerald promised the claims were temporary family loans.

Gerald said Garden Table would repay everything after a large corporate contract.

Thomas received no personal payments.

He protected a friend and ignored rules.

His conduct still exposed him to criminal and professional consequences.

Thomas produced one final email from Gerald.

If Nathan discovers the withdrawals, we move for guardianship. The account follows Lily, not him.

The money and custody plan were directly connected.

They did not need to persuade me permanently.

They needed enough control over Lily to keep submitting claims.
