Chapter 26 - A PHONE UNDER A CHAIR
At twenty-five, Hazel was at a conference banquet.
A colleague dropped a phone.
It slid under Hazel’s chair.
Someone pointed.
“Hey, your phone?”
Hazel froze.
One second.
Then bent down.
Picked it up by edges.
“Not mine.”
The owner laughed.
“Mine. Thanks.”
That was it.
Hazel texted me afterward.
You’ll never guess what happened.

I wrote:

She called.
“I froze.”

I laughed too.
