Chapter 22 - BLYTHE HEARS THE APOLOGY

Mother’s first apology draft was terrible.
I’m sorry the party became upsetting.
Rejected.
Second:
I’m sorry there was confusion about Mommy’s jewelry.
Rejected.
Third, after mediator pushed:
Blythe, I took Mommy’s jewelry when it was supposed to stay for you. I also threw your jewelry box because I was angry. That was wrong. You did not cause it.
Better.
Then:
I should not have said jewelry was for family and not charity. You are family.
Good.
Then:
I will not take your things again.
Concrete.
Blythe agreed to hear it by video.
Mother read.
Blythe listened.
Then:
“Why Aunt wear Mommy necklace?”
Mother swallowed.
“Because I gave it to her when I should not have.”
“Did Aunt know?”
“She knew some of it.”
Fair.
Then Blythe:
“Can you take club?”
Mother’s face changed.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because it belongs to your trust and grown-ups have rules now.”
Good.
Then:
“Do I have to let you come?”
“No.”
Correct.
Blythe looked at me.
Then:
“Maybe park.”
Not today.
Later.
Mother nodded.
“Maybe.”
No pressure.
Then the developer increased land offer after due diligence.
Independent trustee still undecided.
Mother was no longer in vote.
I was not.
Good.
The people with emotional stakes could provide information without controlling decision.
That was Vivienne’s design finally functioning.
Then one final legal battle remained.
Mother challenged the proxy-termination amendment on capacity.
If she won, some past governance could be validated and she might regain a limited claim to committee authority under old documents until reforms effective.
If she lost, her continued voting would clearly be unauthorized.
The hearing would be Ch23.
Big climax.
I dreaded it.
May you like
Not because money.
Because Vivienne’s final competence would be put on trial.
