Chapter 5 - THE COMPANY NAMED AFTER A CHILD

Leo was listed as the sole member of a company called L.P. Future Ventures.
He had been four years old when the articles were filed.
The registered agent was Ryan.
The company guaranteed an equipment lease worth $78,000 and carried two credit cards with a combined balance of $31,600.
A child could not lawfully agree to those obligations.
Ryan used Leo’s Social Security number and birth certificate.
The business name made the theft look like legacy planning.
In reality, it gave creditors a false identity to pursue while keeping North Shore Table’s worst debt off Ryan’s personal report.
I froze Leo’s credit with all three bureaus.
April filed amended court papers.
Federal investigators joined because the fraud involved banks, interstate credit systems, and identity documents.
Ryan was not arrested immediately. Investigators secured warrants, interviewed witnesses, and traced electronic records.
Megan met prosecutors with her own attorney.
No immunity was promised.
She admitted impersonating me during the home-equity verification.
She admitted signing the false power of attorney and using an invented notary seal.
She admitted helping open L.P. Future Ventures.
“Why?” the investigator asked.
“Ryan said the restaurant would support all of us.”
“Did you know using Leo’s identity was illegal?”
“He said it was temporary.”
“That was not the question.”
Megan lowered her head.
“Yes.”
She also described the lobster dinner.
Carol wanted to celebrate a promised investor commitment.
I bought five lobsters believing we were sharing a family meal.
Ryan told them I would arrive angry because the bank had blocked the transfer.
He instructed Carol to feed Leo cheaply, leave me an empty shell, and insult my work.
Megan was told to laugh.
“What was the objective?” the prosecutor asked.
“To make Lauren lose control on camera.”
“Then what?”
“Ryan would offer to keep the video private if she signed the power of attorney and agreed to let him manage Leo’s accounts.”
“And if she left?”
“He planned to file for custody and say she abandoned the family.”
Megan cried during the interview.
Her pregnancy did not make her innocent.
Her fear of Ryan did not erase the moment she looked at my hungry child and kept eating.
She turned over messages.
One from Carol said:
Give the pregnant woman two lobsters. Lauren needs to see where the family future is.
Another from Ryan said:
Leo should look upset when she arrives. Don’t let him eat too much.
The plan had used two children.
One unborn child was elevated as the future.
One living child was made hungry as leverage.
Megan also revealed that Ryan kept a private archive on an encrypted drive.
Photographs of my late arrivals.
Receipts.
Clips of me crying after difficult shifts.
He had documented ordinary exhaustion as evidence of instability.
Police found the drive inside a restaurant freezer that had never been connected to power.
Most files concerned me.
One folder concerned the salon.
Ryan had photographs of my clients, appointment calendar, and private staff schedule.
A spreadsheet listed the days I stayed after closing.
Beside several dates, he had written:
OPPORTUNITY FOR MALE CONTACT.
He planned to accuse me of having an affair.

The photographs had been taken from inside the salon.
Someone at my workplace had been helping him.
