Chapter 15 - THE VIDEO HE KEPT

The fertility clinic video showed me after a failed pregnancy.

Julian had placed his phone on a shelf during a consultation.

I was crying.

I said I could not continue treatment.

I blamed myself.

I told him I felt broken.

None of it related to company ownership or assault.

He intended to release it because humiliation had worked before.

The court issued a protective order blocking dissemination and preserving the account.

Prosecutors added witness-tampering allegations.

Julian claimed the caption referred to a promotional clinic video.

Metadata contradicted him.

He had uploaded our private recording to a hidden folder titled CLARA LEVERAGE.

The folder contained photographs, therapy notes, voice messages, and screenshots of arguments.

Some showed me angry.

One showed me throwing a glass into the sink after learning of his first affair.

It shattered.

No one stood nearby.

Julian had kept it because violence without context could be useful later.

I watched the folder with Rebecca.

My marriage appeared as a warehouse of future accusations.

“Did he record every bad moment?”

“Enough of them.”

“Was any of it illegal?”

“Some recording may have been lawful because he participated. Storage and threatened release create different issues.”

Law did not declare every betrayal criminal.

Some belonged to divorce, privacy, and moral judgment.

I chose not to seek public sealing of everything if doing so required descriptions in open filings.

Rebecca negotiated a confidential evidence protocol.

The jury would hear only materials relevant to charged conduct.

The clinic video remained sealed.

I hated that Julian still controlled part of my behavior through threatened shame.

Therapy helped me name the pattern.

Coercive control depended on making exposure feel worse than submission.

I had already been thrown barefoot into rain.

The worst private moment was no longer the worst thing that could happen.

I agreed to testify.

The assault trial began first.

Sienna described the evening.

She came to the house because Julian said the separation documents were complete.

She wore my robe after spilling wine on her dress.

She knew the earrings were mine.

She admitted enjoying my shock.

Then she described the blows.

One.

Two.

Three.

I told Julian to stop.

Four.

Clara tried to reach the stairs.

Five.

Julian blocked her.

Six.

She hit the doorframe.

Sienna admitted telling me the house was never mine.

The defense exposed her cooperation agreement, financial benefits, and resentment after Julian abandoned her.

All mattered.

My injuries, blood, exterior footage, messages, and document timing supported her.

Julian did not testify.

The jury convicted him of assault causing bodily injury and coercive unlawful eviction-related conduct under the charges available.

They acquitted him of one aggravated count requiring proof that he used the doorframe as a deliberate weapon.

The evidence showed I struck it after the slap, not that he intentionally used it.

The mixed verdict mattered.

Julian received custody on the assault case, but sentencing would be coordinated with the larger financial prosecution.

Outside court, Arthur wanted to celebrate.

I did not.

A verdict confirmed what happened.

It did not return the woman who entered the house before the first slap.

The financial trial remained.

The amount of money was larger.

The violence remained the part I felt in my body.
