Chapter 16 - VERONICA’S TRIAL
The trial lasted six weeks.
Amelia did not testify live.

Then funeral.
Veronica admitted she knew Leonard was alive.
“Why tell Clara he was dead?”
“Lawrence said the trust needed public certainty.”
“Did the trust actually require public certainty?”
“No.”
“You knew your mother believed she was burying Leonard?”
“Yes.”
“Did you stop her?”
“No.”
“Did you block her from opening the coffin?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I was afraid.”
The prosecutor:
“Of what?”
“Everything collapsing.”
“Everything except your family?”
Objection.
Sustained.
Still.
Financial counts were mixed.
Some contracts were above market.
Some justified.
No evidence Veronica stole from Vance Residential directly.
She concealed conflicts.
Approved Lawrence-related contracts improperly.
Guaranteed debt.
The government narrowed to provable fraud and conspiracy.
On Leonard’s attack:
Jury heard no evidence she ordered the SUV ramming.
