The criminal proceedings took eighteen months.
Carmen, Javier, Rosa, Isabel, Teresa, and two other participants faced charges connected to assault, unlawful restraint, coercion, conspiracy, burglary, fraud, and attempted property theft.
Daniela accepted a plea agreement and testified.
Martin Vega, the notary, lost his commission and faced separate charges after records showed he had notarized documents without witnessing signatures in multiple Robles transactions.
The prosecution did not present the case as one dramatic wedding-night explosion.
It presented planning.
The valuation of the condo.
The lender deadline.
The prepared deed.
The false notary block.
Messages arranging the women’s arrival.
Javier leaving the suite.
Carmen directing the restraint.
The condo entry.
The search for the trust release.
The hidden duress phrase.
The ruined dress and injuries.
One detail alone could be explained.
Together, they formed purpose.
The hotel cleaner testified first among civilian witnesses.
She described finding Sofia near the loading dock.
“She had no shoes.”
“What did she say?”
“She asked me not to call her husband.”
“Why?”
“She said he was helping the people who hurt her.”
The room-service employee described Javier preventing her from entering.
The neighboring guest played the recording.
Then Sofia testified.
She wore a dark suit with a high collar.
The scar near her lip had faded.
Her voice remained steady until the prosecutor displayed the wedding photograph taken hours before the assault.
Carmen smiling beside her.

“What did you believe at that moment?” the prosecutor asked.
“That I had married someone who loved me.”
“What changed?”
“I heard him tell his mother not to mark my face.”
The prosecutor placed the deed on the screen.
“Is that your signature?”
“It resembles mine.”
“Did you sign voluntarily?”
“No.”
“What did you write?”
“Signed under duress.”
“Why use the name Sofia Rose Brooks?”
“My father had told me to use a childhood name if anyone forced me to sign.”
Carmen’s attorney approached.
“You had prepared for coercion before marrying into the Robles family?”
“I had been warned to protect the condo generally.”
“So your father convinced you to distrust them.”
“No.”
Sofia looked directly toward the jury.
“The people holding my arms convinced me.”
The attorney suggested she could have shouted for hotel staff.
“I did.”
“You could have refused to sign.”
“I did until I believed continued resistance might kill me.”
“You eventually escaped.”
“Yes.”
“Then the door was not truly secured.”
“It was opened after they believed I had submitted.”
The questions attempted to convert survival into proof that danger had been smaller.
Sofia did not accept the premise.
Javier testified in his own defense.
He admitted knowing about the deed.
Admitted standing outside.
Denied approving violence.
The prosecutor played the audio.
Finish it.
Javier said he meant finish the discussion.
Then messages appeared.
JAVIER: She may need to be scared.
CARMEN: Leave women’s work to women.
JAVIER: Just make sure she can appear at brunch.
The jury saw his concern clearly.
Not whether Sofia was safe.
Whether she remained presentable.
Carmen testified too.
She said Sofia became aggressive.
Claimed the family restrained her for protection.
Denied striking her more than once.
Medical documentation showed impacts from multiple directions.
Daniela described Carmen removing rings before the assault.
A photograph from the suite showed the jewelry placed beside the deed.
Planning reached even into what marks she intended to leave.
The jury deliberated for four days.
The verdicts differed by defendant and conduct.
Carmen and Javier were convicted on the principal conspiracy and coercion charges.
Carmen was also convicted of serious assault offenses.
Several women were convicted of restraint or participation.
Others received mixed verdicts where proof of direct actions remained weaker.
Martin’s fraud case ended separately.
The legal outcome did not transform the wedding night into victory.
It established responsibility.
At sentencing, Carmen spoke about tradition.
“My family believes marriage joins property and obligation.”
The judge answered:
“Tradition does not authorize violence, forgery, or ownership of another adult.”
Javier asked Sofia to look at him.
She did not.
His sentence included substantial incarceration, restitution, and financial penalties connected to the attempted transfer and related fraud.
Carmen received a longer term because evidence showed she directed the assault.
The other sentences varied.
The development company entered bankruptcy.
The lender seized properties already pledged lawfully.
The Uptown condo remained untouched.
After court, reporters surrounded Alexander.
One shouted:
“Colonel Brooks, did your military background help bring down the Robles family?”
He stopped.
“No.”
Cameras moved closer.
“My daughter’s presence of mind preserved the deed. Hotel workers helped her escape. Medical staff documented injuries. Detectives followed records. Witnesses testified. A jury reached verdicts.”
He looked toward Sofia.
“I arrived after she had already saved herself.”
