We sold the house where the nursery incident occurred.
Clara tried to remain.
She said leaving would let Eleanor take another place from us.
Then she heard glass break in the neighbor’s recycling bin and collapsed beside Leo’s crib.
A house did not become a victory because we endured it.
We bought a smaller home near Audrey.
Before moving in, Clara inspected every room.
No connected doorbells.

The first night, Clara woke because the room seemed too quiet.
She walked to Leo’s crib.
He was sleeping.
She returned twenty minutes later.

I lifted him away.

“Glass sharp,” she told him.

No crawling.
No condition.

I asked whether she wanted me inside.
“Yes.”
I sat on the floor beside her.
“You handled it.”
“I was terrified.”
“Both are true.”
The phrase became part of our family language.

Her sentence decreased slightly.
The fraud, restraint, prescription, identity, and custody-related convictions remained.
We told no one the reversal proved the case weak.
We also did not hide it.
