Chapter 8 - THE RAW VIDEO

The full gazebo video came from an automatic backup Chloe had forgotten to disable.
It showed the garden from beginning to end.
Vanessa rolled my wheelchair beside the roses and locked the brake.
She placed the black case on the bench.
Chloe poured champagne.
Carol watched from the conservatory.
Vanessa opened the case and removed a stack of papers.
The text could not be read clearly, but the signature tabs were visible.
She asked me to approve “wedding access and household management.”
I requested time to review the pages.
Vanessa refused.
When I asked for Daniel, she said he had already agreed.
Then she lifted the scissors.
The video captured every insult.
Every cut.
Every time Chloe laughed.
It captured me saying stop four times.
It captured Daniel entering early.
It captured the slap.
It also captured Vanessa’s reaction to the phone message.
The sender’s contact name appeared briefly.
C. AVERY.
Charles Avery.
Our former family attorney had asked whether I had signed.
His firm had not merely prepared background documents.
He was waiting for execution.
Rebecca sent the footage to prosecutors, Adult Protective Services, and the probate court under protective procedures.
Charles denied sending the message personally.
He claimed a staff member used his account.
His firm’s audit log showed the message originated from his private phone.
The state bar opened an investigation.
Chloe’s cooperation improved her position but did not erase her conduct.
She had filmed, mocked, lied, and helped delete evidence.
The prosecutor offered a plea to misdemeanor elder abuse and evidence tampering, with probation, community service, and testimony if she remained truthful.
She accepted.
Vanessa called her a traitor.
The civil case uncovered the contents of the consent packet through a draft stored on Charles’s server.
It would have appointed Daniel acting trustee based on my supposed incapacity.
A companion authorization allowed Vanessa to exercise his powers if a court order, conflict, or emergency prevented him.
Daniel’s slap would trigger that conflict.
The plan depended on three events occurring together.
I looked unstable.
Daniel looked violent.
Vanessa looked like the calm caretaker.
The wedding would make her authority stronger, but the temporary documents were designed to operate before the ceremony.
Daniel read the draft in silence.
“She expected me to hit her.”
“Perhaps,” Rebecca said. “Or she prepared to benefit if you did.”
Daniel’s shame did not make him innocent of the slap.
It made clear how carefully Vanessa had learned his weaknesses.
Susan traced the proposed $2.6 million renovation payment.
The contractor had no employees.
Its bank account was opened by Chloe’s former boyfriend but controlled through a login used from Vanessa’s apartment.
The money would have moved through three accounts and paid Vanessa’s debts before anyone broke ground.
Then police searched a rented storage locker linked to Vanessa.
They found Edward’s sealed letter and the black case.
The original consent packet was missing.

A portable electronic signing device from my study was also gone.
Vanessa still possessed a way to authenticate trust transactions as though they came from me.
